Best Firm 2012

When PCS Structural Solutions won the 2012 “No. 2 Best Structural Engineering Firm to Work For” from Structure Magazine, it was their sixth consecutive year on this list.
While some firms focus on perks, PCS believes those are not enough.  According to president Craig Stauffer, while the firm offers very competitive benefits, flex hours, and paid vacations, environment and fulfillment are more important.  “We work on interesting, challenging projects that impact our community.  Our staff has the ability to leave their mark on what they do, and the challenges they’re presented with allow them to excel and to meet personal, as well as firm-wide, goals.”
The company enjoys strong employee retention, with an average tenure of 14 years.  This is related to professional development and growing from within, adds Stauffer.  “We have a history of ‘organic growth,’ and hiring and developing long-term employees whose entire careers are with PCS.”
To project engineer Alex Lege, the key is people.  “To be honest, if PCS just had a good system of perks, I probably wouldn’t work here,” he says.  “The greatest benefit of working at PCS is the knowledgeable, approachable, friendly staff working here.”
