Clover Park Technical College's Walstrum Center for Advanced Manufacturing Technology is a 63,000 SF, state-of-the-art, industrial-style academic building. It features exposed steel framing with a special concentric braced-frame lateral system, double- height ceilings up to 35-feet tall, and 29 skylights which comprise up to 10 percent of the total roof area. Early participation with the end users and owner provided the team the information it needed to focus on impact with dollars and design. In addition to the front facade and entry, the design focus became the Fifth Lab, an interdisciplinary collaborative space where all the departments could meet and share ideas. Located in the center of the building, this larger, double-height space with circulation around the perimeter connects building users with collaborative activities.
