Eastside Community Center

Serving as a community-focused space for residents of East Tacoma, Eastside Community Center brings 55,000 square feet of space for families of all ages to play and learn. The new facility features a basketball court ringed by a suspended running track, social hall for over 500 people, commercial-style teaching kitchen for community cooking classes, professional recording studio, cafe run by Metronome Coffee, and fitness center with aerobic and weight machines as well as space for fitness and dance classes. The 318,000-gallon swimming pool has numerous amenities ranging from lap lanes to kid-friendly zip lines and vortex pools. As one of the first projects using cross-laminated timber (CLT) in Tacoma, the LEED Silver-certified community center features warm and inviting CLT canopies at the entrances which welcome people in and offer shelter to waiting bus passengers. Extensive daylighting throughout makes this stunning facility a true beacon to the community for Eastside residents.
This project received an AIA Washington Civic Design Merit Award in 2019. The Awards celebrate design excellence in publicly funded projects located in Washington and showcase projects with the highest standards in sustainability, innovation, building performance and overall integration with the client and surrounding communities.
