Puyallup School District's Kessler Center is a versatile new 36,500 SF, two-story, student support services facility. The student center serves digital learners, the Advance Program, Child Find, Highly Capable, and Special Services programs and staff. A design incorporating buckling restrained brace frames and HSS columns in the steel framed building allowed the team to accommodate a condensed schedule and tight budget requirements. PCS worked closely with the design team to ensure the structural system supported the architectural vision of the project, including many different roof heights, slopes, and architectural transitions. The site also includes a new 2,700 SF play shed constructed with round concrete columns, steel frames (steel beams and bar-joists) with metal deck, and masonry screen walls on both ends of the structure.
