Designed as a guest house for a new family residence, this 20-foot square two story cube will be used as the home for the family until the adjacent future residence is constructed. Located on a bluff overlooking Hood Canal, the home is entered from a extensive exterior deck below a large cantilevered canopy. Using a combination of wood and steel framing, the entry canopy is cantilevered from the home in a method that allows the entry door/windows to extend up to the soffit of the canopy. This allows the canopy to appear as extending out from the entry to over the deck with no visible support. Built with a modest budget and natural light in mind, the home has large windows oriented to the view as well as simple pine and painted finishes. A large patio connects with trails down to the beach.
